What he does
Terry pilots the deep-diving submersibles Pisces IV and Pisces V. He manages HURL's submersible program.

How he got into science
Terry's been fascinated by manned submersibles since he was about 10. After studying oceanography in college, he started working with his first submersible: Star II.

Favorite accomplishments
Terry saw his lab grow from a small operation with one shallow-diving sub into a major science program with two deep-diving subs, a ROV (remotely operated vehicle) and a research support ship.

In his free time
He likes to surf, dive, backpack, camp and mountain climb.

Quote
"The exploration of inner space is always fascinating. Even after over 20 years of diving, every dive is as exciting as the first."
