What he does
Pete uses satellite images to examine volcanoes here-and on Mars. He also visits volcanoes up close, observing them here to understand them on Mars.

How he got into science
Pete wanted to study 19th century British foreign politics. His brother told him history majors rarely had good jobs…but scientists had lots of fun.

Favorite accomplishments
Pete likes to explore. He's been everywhere from volcanoes in the Andes 17,000 ft. high, to the deep sea in a submarine, 10,400 ft. below.

In his free time
Pete's hooked on open-ocean swimming, and still tries to run road races.

Quote
"My high school language teacher said 'You're so bad at this-you'll never be a French professor."
