Paul uses "remote-sensing" to study faraway places like
the moon. He also designs and builds special cameras for planes,
satellites and the space station.
How
he got into science
Paul was a space nut as a kid, but drifted away from science in
high school. He went to college thinking he'd major in English.
An enthusiastic professor rekindled his interest.
Favorite
accomplishments
Paul discovered how to use reflected light to map how much iron
is on the moon. He also used spacecraft data to figure out what
minerals exist on the asteroid Eros.
In
his free time
Paul enjoys spending time with his wife and daughter, "doing
almost all the cooking," and reading-especially history.
