What she does
Margo uses sonar and cameras to map the seafloor. The maps help her find features like shipwrecks, underwater eruptions, hot-springs tube worms and evidence of ancient glaciers.

How she got into science
Twelve-year old Margo desperately wanted to be an astronaut. She followed this path through college, where she was asked to use sonar data to make seafloor maps. Soon she was diving to the bottom of the sea and loving it.

Favorite accomplishments
Family, says Margo, is her greatest feat: "Balancing home life with my job is hard, but very worthwhile." She's proud of her work studying the Arctic, opening up Arctic submarine exploration to women.

In her free time
She likes to watch baseball and movies with her family, do aerobics, camp and swim.
