What he does
Luke uses satellites and incoming data to track active fires and volcanic eruptions all around the world.

How he got into science
His mom and dad are chemists. When he was little, his dad took him to the lab. Years later, in college, Luke was washing dishes when someone asked him if he'd rather study astronomy. That someone knew Carl Sagan, and Luke had a new job.

Favorite accomplishments
Luke started a project to monitor all the Earth's fires and volcanic eruptions every day. He also loves measuring extremely hot lava flows.

In his free time
Luke enjoys playing with his daughters, Victoria and Caitlin. He also lifts weights and reads history books.
