What she does
Jackie studies natural hazards like volcanoes, earthquakes and landslides. Most of her work focuses on the undersea volcano Lo`ihi.

How she got into science
Jackie's first memory of science is peering at the night sky through a telescope with her father and sister. After experiencing two big earthquakes and hiking up Mount St. Helens, she decided to study natural hazards.

Favorite accomplishments
Using data from thousands of small earthquakes, Jackie was able to explain why Lo`ihi erupted in 1996. She's also excited to have recorded the rumbling sounds of underwater landslides.

In her free time
You'd find her out with the Koa Kai canoe club or under the hood of her '64 Ford Falcon. She also likes reading, playing poker, cooking and "making awful twanging noises on the guitar."
