Chip runs the center that warns Hawai'i and the rest of the Pacific
when a dangerous tsunami is coming.
How
he got into science
Chip always loved science. In college, he took a job as student
assistant to a seismologist. He liked it so much he decided to become
a geophysicist.
Favorite
accomplishments
Chip's work includes studying earthquake waves that travel under
the oceans. Most recently, he helped improve the tsunami warning
system to make it faster, more accurate and more reliable.
In
his free time
Chip plays golf and tennis, and enjoys doing projects around the
house. He and his wife Nitaya are in the midst of a really big project:
they're expecting twin girls.
