What she does
Marine biologist Amy Baco-Taylor has an unusual specialty. She studies the animals that live in and around dead whales llying on the seafloor.

How she got into science
Amy didn't even see the ocean till she was 15. But marine biology was the only thing she ever wanted to do.

Favorite accomplishments
She enjoyed working with Craig Smith's team studying the mussels living in and around dead whales.

Strangely enough, the dead-whale mussels are related to the mussels that live in two other extreme habitats: the hot springs at mid-ocean ridges…and spots on the seafloor where cold water seeps to the surface.

In her free time
Amy likes to scuba dive and hike.

Quote
"I hate seafood in every form."
